Jana de Boniface

Jana de Boniface is a general surgeon trained in Berlin, Germany, and Stockholm, Sweden. Her clinical focus is breast surgery, particularly oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgery, which she practices as a consultant at Capio Saint Göran’s Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden.

She is a dedicated educator and organizes annual oncoplastic courses with international faculty participation. As a Clinical Professor at Karolinska Institutet, she is widely recognized for leading the international SENOMAC trial on axillary surgery de-escalation. Her research includes both registry-based and prospective clinical studies aimed at individualizing breast and axillary surgery in breast cancer, with the goal of minimizing the negative impact on patients’ quality of life without compromising survival outcomes.

More recently, she has expanded her research into exercise oncology and leads the largest international randomized trial investigating exercise as an addition to primary systemic therapy. In recognition of her patient-centred and implementation-focused work, she received the Annual Award from Sweden’s national breast cancer patient association and the Jubilee Award from the Swedish Medical Association in 2024. In 2025, she was invited as the Jeanne Petrek Memorial Lecturer by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
