Lung Cancer: Even Small Tumor Volumes Worsen Prognosis and Increase Risk of Complications After SRS
At ASCO 2025, Dr. Andreas Koulouris, MD, PhD, from Karolinska University Hospital and Karolinska Institutet, presented findings from a large real-world study of lung cancer patients with brain metastases treated with stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS). The study shows that even small irradiated tumor volumes are linked to increased risk of radionecrosis and local recurrence, particularly at 12 months post-treatment. Dr. Koulouris emphasizes the need for long-term follow-up, as these risks may not be apparent at earlier time points.
