Henrietta M. Nielsen
Dr Henrietta M. Nielsen received her PhD in Medicine from Lund University in Sweden and went on to receive postdoctoral training at VU Medical Center in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and at Lund University. Before starting her independent career as an Assistant Professor of Neurochemistry at Stockholm University, Sweden she also trained at the Mayo Clinic Florida, USA.
Dr Nielsen is a tenured Associate Professor in Neurochemistry and her lab has a major focus on investigating biological mechanisms promoting/leading to neurodegenerative dementia, mainly in the periphery. The Nielsen laboratory aims to better understand how the APOE4 allele contributes to the increased risk of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s disease with a strong interest in characterizing APOE4-associated peripheral phenotypes and processes especially in the liver.
Dr Nielsen also serves as a senior editor for Molecular Neurodegeneration and as an editorial board member for Aging Cell.
Dr Nielsen is a member of the board of directors of the International Society for Molecular Neurodegeneration (ISMND) and also serves as the ISMND President. Since 2024, Dr Nielsen is also part of the executive organizing team of the AD/PD Conference Series.
