Chronic wounds predominantly afflict the elderly population, affecting approximately 1%–2% of the Western population at least once in their lifetime. These persistent wounds pose a significant threat to the quality of life (QoL) of sufferers due to the enduring pain, unpleasant odor, cumbersome treatment procedures, and societal stigma. Such diminished QoL can lead to various associated health issues, including depression, and hinder patients’ compliance with treatment plans.
