Ischemic stroke is more common in patients with primary autoimmune hemolytic anemia

Patients suffering from autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) have an increased load of cell free hemoglobin, which is suspected to be associated with thrombosis. In this MEDtalk, Dennis Lund Hansen, MD at Odense University Hospital, Denmark, presents results from his research on patients with AIHA in Denmark and France. Findings indicate that ischemic stroke among patients with AIHA is more likely compared to controls, with a 1-year adjusted HR risk on 2.3 [1.8-2.9].
