MS: This increase in Blood-Brain Barrier Permeability Appears to be Connected to the Spread of Lesions Across the Brain

In this MEDtalk, Lina Moschoula Passali focuses on blood-brain barrier permeability in patients with optic neuritis, a common early symptom of multiple sclerosis (MS). The study, presented at ECTRIMS 2024, showed that blood-brain barrier permeability in the normally occurring white matter is increased in patients who already meet MS diagnostic criteria, but not before. This increase in permeability of the blood-brain barrier appears to be related to the spread of lesions across the brain.
