The Risk of Alzheimer’s Disease Can Develop Over 10-20 Years Before the Cognitive Symptoms Appear
How do we develop clinical and blood-based biomarkers to identify Alzheimer’s risk long before cognitive symptoms emerge, as the disease may develop over 10-20 years? Professor Anne Koivisto, from the University of Helsinki and chief neurologist at the University Hospital Memory Clinic, focuses on this question in her research on early detection of Alzheimer’s disease. Her team also works on algorithms to predict dementia progression and explores methods to track early-stage cognitive decline for timely intervention.
