An unknown intestinal mechanism limits the effect of insulin
We know that bariatric surgery results in a rapid improvement of insulin resistance way before weight loss, but we don’t know the mechanism behind. It might be due to mechanisms in the small intestine. In this study, professor Geltrude Mingrone, presents the data of a study comparing glucose metabolism in obese participants administered with oral glucose and for 7–10 days and subsequently i.v. glucose. At the same time, they analyze the differences in insulin effect on proteolysis, ketogenesis and lipolysis.
